Retreat Travel Insurance FAQs

How much should I spend on travel insurance?

The cost of travel insurance varies based on factors like your age, destination, length of stay, coverage limits, and the type of policy you choose. On average, travel insurance typically costs between 4% to 10% of your total trip cost.

Why is travel insurance required for international retreats?

In the event your travel to and from the retreat is interrupted, or you get sick or injured during a retreat, we want you to have the peace of mind knowing that you may be reimbursed for these costs by your travel insurance. For this reason it's important to choose the kind of coverage that's right for you and gives you the most peace of mind. Having medical coverage while traveling abroad is crucial not only to assist with unexpected emergency medical expenses that are your responsibility. Your travel insurance provider can also serve as a liaison between you and medical personnel in the foreign country you're visiting, giving you peace of mind so you can enjoy your retreat knowing you are protected and supported.

What does travel insurance cover?

Coverage varies depending on the policy, but common inclusions are trip cancellation/interruption, emergency medical expenses, emergency medical evacuation, baggage loss/delay, and travel delays due to unforeseen circumstances.

Is travel insurance worth it?

While we never want to consider worst case scenarios, sh*t happens sometimes. We want you to be able to sleep well at night knowing that you're protected from unexpected costs can occur with travel these days. Plus, since your retreat package is non-refundable after a certain point, trip cancellation and additional CFAR ("cancel for any reason") benefits may reimburse you if you become sick or injured and can't travel. (Please check the specific terms and conditions of your policy, however, for details about any specific scenarios. We cannot guarantee coverage from third-party insurers).

Is travel insurance necessary if I already have health insurance in the U.S.?

While your health insurance may provide coverage domestically, it might not extend to certain areas or services while you're traveling. Travel insurance can fill these gaps, covering medical emergencies, evacuation, and other travel-related incidents not typically included in standard health insurance.

What factors should I consider when choosing a travel insurance policy?

Consider your destination, length of stay, activities planned, health condition, and any pre-existing medical conditions. Additionally, review the policy's coverage limits, exclusions, deductibles, and customer reviews to ensure it meets your specific needs and concerns.

Can travel insurance protect me against unforeseen events such as natural disasters or terrorist attacks?

Yes, many travel insurance policies offer coverage for trip cancellations or interruptions due to natural disasters, terrorist attacks, or other unforeseen events. However, it's essential to carefully read the policy's terms and conditions to understand the extent of coverage provided.

When should I purchase travel insurance for a trip?

We recommend purchasing your travel insurance policy immediately after paying your retreat deposit (or paying in full). You can only add additional benefits such as CFAR (Cancel for Any Reason) when you purchase your policy within 14 days of paying a deposit.
